Alberta Massage Training

Alberta Massage Training offers two distance learning programs at five different campus locations throughout northern Alberta. Both programs are very affordable, thorough and prepare the graduate for a professional career in massage therapy. Programs are identical in all three locations and allow for transfer from one to another.

Our mission is to provide students with the career training necessary to practice in the setting of their choice with a high level of skill, integrity and professionalism. We therefore provide training in both relaxation and therapeutic approaches to massage therapy.

You can be assured that staff at the Alberta Massage Training Institute are experienced, competent and caring. They are dedicated professionals, willing to share their skills and their wisdom; they reach out to students in a variety of ways to ensure student success.

Campus Locations

  • Grande Prairie Campus located at Northern Lakes College. This location also serves as our head office.
  • Edmonton Campus located at NorQuest College.
  • Fort McMurray Campus located at Keyano College.
  • Lloydminster Campus located at Commonwealth Centre 3

The students do the majority of work at home and attend school every third weekend for hands on skills training. We have a small teacher to student ratio, allowing greater student success as well as student support phone lines.

Our programs include a practicum providing students with valuable supervised experience treating the public in a real work environment. This practicum is completed away from the school with the convenience of carrying this out in their own community. Many tell us the practicum is the best part of the program.

Programs

  • Swedish Relaxation Massage Certificate
This Certificate program provides the Graduate with the knowledge of the most common form of massage in North America. Graduates of this program can become members of the Association of Massage Therapists and Wholistic Practitioners allowing them to work in spas, cruise ships, or in private practice as relaxation massage therapists. Graduates may elect to progress to the Massage Therapy Diploma program.
  • Massage Therapy Diploma
Many students are already practicing relaxation massage when they enter this program.

This Diploma program provides the student with an opportunity to learn deep tissue massage, fascia release, stretching, history taking orthopedic assessment and treatment of pathologies of the entire musculoskeletal system. To be able to treat such things as whiplash, headaches, low back pain, and many other conditions normally treated by highly qualified Massage Therapists. They also learn how to work closely with other healthcare professionals such as Medical Doctors Chiropractors, and Physiotherapists. These skills allow the graduate to be a professional; in the mainstream healthcare system.

Graduates of this program should be successful in challenging the entrance exam of the Alberta Registered Massage Therapists Society, The organization formed to acquire legislation from the Province of Alberta. With the cutbacks to the healthcare system many employers now provide insurance that includes massage therapy; this has created a demand for massage therapy like never before.
