Providence Institute provides the highest quality wellness
services and educational programs, inspiring personal

Our educational programs include Massage Therapy, Yoga Teacher
Training and Personal Trainer Certification.
Providence Institute is now enrolling for our 750-hour March,
2008, Massage Therapy Certification Program. This program is
full-time and runs for 6 months. Student financing is available.
We are also currently enrolling for full-time and part-time
programs beginning in September.
Course Descriptions

Swedish Massage Technique - Students begin by learning
the basic Swedish massage techniques of effleurage, petrissage,
tapotement, friction and vibration as well as passive
stretching techniques, draping techniques and the use of oils
and lotions.

Applied Techniques - Through lecture, hands-on practice
and clinic internships, students are introduced to applying
massage techniques for specific populations which may include
prenatal massage, sports massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Thai
massage and medical massage.

Hydrotherapy - Students are introduced to the use of
heat and cold through water as a therapeutic adjunct to
bodywork.

Anatomy - The Anatomy curriculum is specifically
designed for people who are entering the field of bodywork.

Physiology - Through lecture and in-class activities,
students begin the exploration of the human body. Students
learn the organs and functions of each of the 11 systems
(nervous system, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, etc.)
resulting in a comprehensive understanding of how the body
functions in health and disease.

Lab - Students are given supervised time to practice and
improve the massage skills learned in Massage Technique class.

Introduction to Shiatsu - The principles of Zen Shiatsu
are presented in this introductory course. Through developing
the foundational concepts of moving from center and using
gravity effectively, massage techniques are enhanced and less
effort is needed to apply deep pressure.

Professional Practice Development - This class explores
the business, legal, financial and ethical aspects of a career
in professional bodywork for the private practitioner,
small-business owner, independent contractor or employee.

Professional Massage Skills - Students develop
confidence and skill at interviewing clients and keeping
professional client records.

Clinical Internship - Massage Internship brings students
into contact with the public to provide treatments in a clinic
setting. The majority of clinic time is spent giving
treatments, with opportunities for researching pathologies,
reviewing case studies and receiving feedback from the
instructor and clients.

Movement Integration - This class focuses on the
expansion of kinesthetic awareness through the personal
exploration of movement and breath.
Beyond the Classroom
The practice of yoga and meditation are valuable self-care tools
and serve to develop a deeper understanding of the body. To
compliment the movement classes in the curriculum, we encourage
students to attend unlimited free classes in our yoga schedule.
In addition to yoga classes, our scope of professional services
includes body therapy, personal training and a retail store. To
further support the health and fitness needs of our students, we
offer all services and retail merchandise at a discount.
Overview of Massage Therapy Field
The demand for massage therapists is high due to the growing
hospitality industry and the integration of massage therapy into
traditional Western medical care. Our programs focus on clinical
application combined with a compassionate healing touch,
preparing you for a successful and fulfilling career in this
diverse industry.

from the US Department of Labor:
- In-demand occupations are found in national high growth
industries. Massage Therapists work in high growth industries
such as health care and hospitality.
- Nationally, massage therapy has a faster than average
projected growth rate.
- In Arizona, the occupation is projected to grow a 3.2 percent
annual rate, faster than the 2.2 percent growth rate from all
occupations in the state.
- Of the estimated annual openings for massage therapists in
Arizona, 61.5 percent will be due to growth and the creation of
new positions.
