Body Therapy Institute is a very special place where you will find:

  • A 25-year tradition of academic excellence
  • A beautiful natural environment for learning and healing
  • A wonderful place to realize your goals and dreams

Our 150-acre campus at South Wind Farm is located in the heart of the North Carolina Piedmont -- and the school is known nationally for its leadership and innovation in massage and bodywork education.

Massage Therapy Diploma Program

Our entry-level training is designed for those interested in pursuing a professional career in the field of massage and bodywork therapy, or for health care practitioners seeking to enhance their range of clinical skills and knowledge. The 650-hour curriculum is presented in two different schedules for your convenience: a Fall 3-semester evening/weekend program (takes 12 months to complete), and a Spring 2-semester daytime program (takes 8 months to complete).

We offer you an optimal learning environment which supports healing and integration of the whole person. Throughout the program, our dedicated and experienced faculty will guide you in the process of achieving excellence in the therapeutic knowledge, sensitivity and personal awareness necessary for the effective and successful practice of massage therapy.

Earning your diploma from BTI will qualify you for the National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, for state licensure in North Carolina and Florida, and for professional association membership.

Application and personal interview are required for admission. You must be 18 to apply for the program. Complete requirements are detailed in our free 16-page catalog and admissions package, which is available upon request.

Career Training Loans are available through SLM Financial Corporation.

What Makes Our Program Special

At BTI, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic experience as you develop a high degree of technical skill and sensitivity. Our approach embraces a synthesis of both Western and Eastern bodywork traditions and is founded on these core attributes:

  • Optimal Body Mechanics -- using the principles of structural alignment, centering and grounding to create the most relaxed and efficient way of doing massage
  • Development of Inner Resources -- bringing the qualities of presence, contact, mindfulness and self-awareness to the therapist/client relationship
  • Excellent Hands-on Skills -- working with time-honored methods of massage in carefully organized sequences of practice and therapeutic application
  • Mind-Body Connection -- exploring the dynamic relationship between the psychological level of thoughts, feelings, emotions -- and their corresponding patterns of muscular and sensory expression on the somatic level
  • Energetics -- recognizing the flow of life force in the body, and the corresponding states of balance/imbalance
  • Movement, Rhythm & Creative Expression -- using methods designed to bring more creativity, enjoyment and vitality to the massage environment
  • Community Service -- offering massage therapy to the general public and other health care providers through individual and group projects

A Wealth of Opportunities

BTI graduates enjoy the many benefits of working in this natural health care profession, including: having meaningful work in their lives, being of service to people in their communities, and having the freedom to practice in the way they desire. The latest research shows that massage and bodywork therapy is the most widely used complementary health care service in the country. Because of this popularity, there are a wealth of career opportunities available in this rapidly expanding field.

Continuing Education and Advanced Training

Each year, BTI features a schedule of short courses and extended programs with some of the leading experts in the field of massage and bodywork therapy. BTI is designated as an Approved Provider of Continuing Education Programming by NCBTMB. Detailed info on all courses can be found in our current program guide (available upon request).
