Based on the same theories of traditional Chinese medicine as acupressure, specific points on the feet and hands are regarded as corresponding to organs and tissues in the body. Stimulating these points has a beneficial effect on the area of the body connected with the specific reflex.
How is reflexology practiced?
Most reflexologists spend an entire therapy session working only on the hands and feet. Due to the noninvasive nature of the therapy, reflexology is often used in situations where other types of body work are contraindicated.

Certification is available in the United States through the national association. Reflexology techniques are also commonly taught at most massage schools.
