What are Bach flower remedies and flower essences?
Dr. Edward Bach, a physician and homeopath, developed 38 flower essences from English flowers in the 1930s. His research indicates that flower essences balance discord between the body and the mind, which leads to physical illness and emotional distress.
Today, flowers from all over the world are being researched and developed according to the unique healing properties of each species. Flower essences are liquid, pattern-infused solutions made from individual plant flowers, each containing its own specific imprint. The essence responds to imbalances in humans to help them repair and rebuild on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.
How is the Bach flower method practiced?
Flower essences are made from the energy vibrations of flowers by placing flower petals in water and allowing them to sit in the sun for a period of four to five hours. In this way the healing and balancing pattern is released into the water in a highly condensed form. The resulting tincture is preserved in brandy and is then taken orally a few drops at a time as part of a healing program. Taken in this fashion the flower essences will reveal the physical and emotional elements that been suppressed through the years. Flowers can be used for both acute or chronic emotional states.
Flower essences complement and can be used safely with any medications or healing methods including: drugs, surgery, acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic and herbal therapies. Like homeopathy, there is currently no analytical scientific explanation for why flower essences have such a beneficial effect on people. Certification training programs are available. Training is generally open to any interested student, but some courses are only open to health professionals or to those currently enrolled in a medical school.
